Progressive champion Maggie Hassan was elected Governor in 2012, after 5 years in the New Hampshire State Senate. There, she had been elected President Pro Tempore and Majority Leader. She is challenging Sen. Kelly Ayotte.
- On the Issues: Governor Hassan is a true champion on climate issues. She has been a leader on budget and other issues related to economic opportunity, including education, disability support and special education. She is a champion on LGBT rights and choice issues, and supports Employment Non-Discrimination Act transgender protections.
- Election update (9/27): New Hampshire, unlike most states, has an even distribution of registered Democrats and Republicans, with over 350,000 undeclared voters. Polling has been within the margin of error since Hassan announced her candidacy. The race is likely to stay a tossup until the end.
