Patty Judge is running against incumbent Senator Chuck Grassley. Judge was elected Lieutenant Governor in 2006, but lost reelection in 2010. She had previously served as Iowa Secretary of Agriculture from 1998 until 2006, and in the Iowa State Senate from 1992 until 1998. She had most recently Co-Chaired a bipartisan PAC promoting a renewable fuel standard.
- On the Issues: Coming from a moderate state like Iowa, Judge is quite progressive, including wanting to make a difference on climate change. She sees campaign finance reform as one of the biggest issues that needs to be addressed, and would also be a champion on budget and tax issues.
- Election update (9/27): As Chair of the Judiciary Committee Grassley has played a central role in blocking a vote on Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Garland. While Grassley is incredibly popular in Iowa, polls show frustration with his involvement in not allowing a vote on Garland, and Judge has worked to make this a key issue. However, she has thus far consistently trailed by 7-10 points.
