Russ Feingold previously served 10 years in the Wisconsin State Senate, and then as the US Senator from Wisconsin from 1993 until 2011. He lost reelection in 2010 to Ron Johnson, who he is challenging this year. He recently served as the United States Special Envoy for the African Great Lakes and the Congo-Kinshasa.
- On the Issues: Feingold has a long history of championing campaign finance reform, including the McCain Feingold campaign reform law. He has generally been a strong progressive voice, and we are confident that will continue with his return to the Senate.
- Election update (9/27): This is one of the two seats mostly likely to flip from Republican to Democrats this year. Feingold has consistently led Johnson for months, by an average of 10 points. In the first half of 2016 Feingold has outraised Johnson by $2.5M, which is unheard of for a challenger candidate. Outside GOP groups are staying out, a sign that they believe they have already lost the seat.
